Selecting the Right Adhesive
The following factors should be considered when selecting a Maxi Bond adhesive for a particular application.

1. The Surface of the Substrates to be Joined

A. Matched surfaces normally use a thin, low viscosity adhesive.
B. Paste or gap-filling adhesives are used extensively for unmatched surfaces.

2. Joint Design and Surface Preparation

Proper joint design and surface preparation should be considered before setting up a bonding line application. Consult Polymer Engineering for assistance.

3. Environmental Conditions

Environmental temperatures and atmospheres to which the bond line will be subjected in service must be considered. In the case of elevated temperature exposure, the coefficient of thermal expansion of the substrates to be joined should be considered.

For surfaces with a similar coefficient of expansion, a more rigid bond line may be used. For dissimilar materials, an adhesive with sufficient flexibility or resiliency to absorb the dimensional change should be selected.

4. Production Line Requirements

The ability to properly apply the adhesive by hand or with automated equipment, plus the speed of cure, are factors which should be considered when setting up a bonding operation. Oven curing and fixturing are two examples of techniques which should be considered when selecting your adhesives.

Adhesive can be easily applied with pneumatic equipment.
